Papa Clem

Papa Clem's odds to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes may be listed at +700 (or 7/1) at BetUS.com.  If that online sportsbook had its way, they would list Papa Clem as the favorite to win.  Alas, the oddsmakers and betting public will dictate that filly Rachel Alexandra and Derby upset winner Mine That Bird get the favorite nod.  Second place Derby finisher, Pioneerof The Nile came in at +450 odds.

But according to D.S. Williamson of BetUS.com, Papa Clem is the horse to watch.  The BetUS.com 2009 power rankings have him at number one, even with relatively long +700 odds for a payout potential of $700 on every $100 bet.

"The son of Smart Strike was right up on the suicidal pace in the Derby . Granted, he was on the inside part of the track, but then switched outside before the top of the stretch before trying his hand once again at the leaders. He should improve yet again in the Preakness and his sire has already produced a Preakness winner in Curlin. Papa Clem would be a huge overlay at 7 to 1 in the Preakness after his fantastic Derby run."

Papa Clem odds to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes have great value considering he finished a very close 4th in the Kentucky Derby.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
